Not Like You Planned

Have you ever been writing, totally emersed in your character(s), and they do something that surprises you? I love moments like that. And because I like the surprises my character(s) can offer, I'm a terrible plotter. I have the framework for a story (and usually the ending) but other details, their journey...not so much.

That's also why I get frustrated when stories don't translate well from my brain to paper. Can you tell I'm in that kind of a pickle right now? I think I have a decent storyline, and it's not working out. It's the execution, or the voice -- something is wrong. I really need to invent a tape recorder for my mind.

Your Superpower Should Be Super Speed

You're quick witted and fast to act.
You're mind works at warp speed. From your perspective, everyone else is living in slow motion.
You get so much done, people have accused you of not sleeping.
Definitely not a couch potato, you feel a bit crazy if you're not busy doing something.

Why you would be a good superhero: You're be the first on the scene... and likely to finish the job before anyone else shows up

Your biggest problem as a superhero: Being bored by everyone else. Including other superheroes!

Potty Training is For the Birds!

It's certainly not for my three-year-old, that's for sure.

He had been getting better so I'm not certain what's happened this week to knock him off track. It happens to everyone, I suppose. One of the problems is he doesn't say when he needs to go. He just goes in his Cars Pull-Ups.

#1 is fine and dandy for the potty. He's more than happy to aim and shoot. #2, not so much. When I ask him if he's doing #2, he looks shocked and horrified, like I've mortally wounded him. "Nooooo!" he'll scream. Then he runs away, usually to finish his business in private.

One of these days we'll hit the intended target, instead of his Cars Pull-Ups.

Thursday Already?

Ugh -- the year is flying by too quickly!! Before I know it, Christmas will be here! My husband is gearing up for fall -- his favorite season (college football, tailgating, and the like).

I've been busy: editing, home life, day job, etc. (not necessarily in that order). I've also been reading. Because I spend so much time staring at a computer screen (writing, editing, day job), I like to take as many opportunities as I can to try and save my eyesight! Check out The Book Geek to see what I've been reading. I've got to update my books here too. Bad Jana!!

Then there's writing. While I take Sweaty Sven and his challenge seriously, writing has definitely taken a backseat to the other things in my life. There are missed opportunities, sure (my lunch hour, for instance). Writing is important to me; it's just in last place right now!

It's times like these I wish I could clone myself.

Extreme Heat

I'm not talking about something I'm reading, editing, or possibly writing; I'm talking about the weather. It's too hot to move.

Had I lived in olden times where corsets, stays, and various layers of clothing were worn, I would die. Then again, in olden times, there were 4 seasons. We have summer and sorta winter. I'll be glad when winter arrives...in February.

In fact, your still skating by on your looks and charm. Nothing wrong with that!

Today's Your Birthday!

Not my birthday, my son's, who is 3 (or as he likes to repeat "Fee!!!"). He didn't want to go to preschool this morning because his dad's at home. Despite the tears, he enjoyed his Thomas the Train book (and didn't want to share with his school friend).
