February Historical: Promise Me Tonight

A talented new author makes her debut with a sexy regency tale of the boy next door-and the girl who drives him wild...

Isabella Weston has loved James Sheffield forever. Her coming-out ball seems a perfect opportunity-and James is soon stunned to find that the impish girl he once knew has blossomed into a sensual goddess.

When Izzie kisses James, her artless ardor turns to a masterful seduction that drives him mad with desire. But James is determined never to love. Can Isabella convince him that a life without love might be the biggest loss of all?

I do not remember who told me or where I saw the buzz on Ms. Lindsey's debut. Twitter, I'm sure. Regardless, I'm a sucker for BFF's-little-sister-is-love-of-my-life trope (or any variation on this theme), so I picked up Promise Me Tonight.

It wasn't what I thought it would be. And that's not a bad thing -- it far surpassed my expectations.

The final third of the book wherein *SPOILERS* Izzie decides to go on with her life despite being completely miserable five minutes earlier didn't ring 100% true to me, especially given Isabella's determination to force James to admit he loves her. Yes, I understand being devastated; yes, I understand threatening the solicitor for information about the man who essentially ran away from you on your wedding night. Still, it seems to me she would have reacted differently rather than accepting her fate. *END SPOILERS*

And because I so enjoyed Ms. Lindsey's writing, I'm planning to read the second book of the series, Tempting the Marquess, once it releases in June.

The Lovely Kittengirls of Mew Orleans by G.G. Royale

Margot Granville has spent five years trying to find a master in the BDSM underground of New Orleans. No man has been able to fulfill her needs. After another failed happening, she has a dream: kittengirls. She decides to throw a burlesque show with a complete cat theme, partly to get her mind off things and partly to see if there’s anyone left out there who could give her what she wants.

Maxwell Billew has what seems to be the last available hall in New Orleans, and Margot is practically begging him to let her rent it. But what’s it for? Maxwell learns of Margot’s plans and proclivities, and the brown-haired beauty intrigues him. Could she be the one who can accept him for the Dom he is, or will his penchant for punishment scare her off?

Publisher's Note: This book contains explicit sexual content, graphic language, and situations that some readers may find objectionable: Anal play/intercourse, BDSM theme and content, spanking.

This Side of Heaven by Fallon Blake

Samara Hale has learned to keep everyone at arm’s length, with good reason. Abandoned by a father she’s never known, she’ll do anything to not become her mother and waste her love on a man who will only end up leaving. A powerful empath, she’s grown comfortable hiding behind her self-imposed walls. On the heels of her uncle’s death, a stranger shows up claiming to be a Telal, a half-demon, half-angel. She’s sure he’s out of his mind—unbelievably hot, but still, out of his mind. When she’s attacked by demons, he’s the only one who can save her. Samara will have to trust him with her life. She’s just not sure she can trust him with her heart.

With a forbidden love, an ancient prophecy, and demons on the hunt, Nathaniel knows this would be the worst time to act on his feelings for his mortal charge. But with Samara’s life in danger, he must not only come face-to-face with temptation, but with an old rival whose ambitions include claiming Samara for Lucifer himself. Nathaniel will risk it all to save the woman he loves and he can only hope Samara will take a risk of her own.

Cold Victory by Fiona Jayde

Intergalactic warfare has not been kind to humans. Convicted pilot Zoya Scott has the chance to avenge her family, redeem an act of desperation with that of sacrifice. She’ll end this war if she betrays the man whose touch burns through her soul, the man whose ship and crew she must destroy. The man who is her bloodmate.

Commander Galen Stark never expected the convicted pilot on his ship to be anything more than a good looking inconvenience. A small brush of their hands grips him with vicious lust, a need he can’t control. She is his bloodmate--a biological reaction burning through his veins.

Except his bloodmate carries an explosive. And Stark may have to give the order to destroy them all.
