Ever feel like you're in a rut? Like you're eating the same thing daily? Or reading the same thing? Or writing the same thing? Sometimes "the usual" -- whatever is usual for you -- can feel very comfortable. Sometimes though, it's good for you to break out of that cycle, to do something different, to read something new...you get the drift.
As a reader, I'm in a rut. Of the 3 books I've picked up to read, I've put all 3 of them back (for one reason or another). So help me out. I'll read anything except horror.

I hear you! I've started like 4 books and I've not finished them. They're not bad, mind you. But I feel like I need to change, read something different. But when I go to Borders and look around, I can't find anything appealing. Ugh!
ReplyDeleteAs for writing, yet, I was caught in a little - oh okay, huge - rut. Not so much writing the same thing, but all my heroines sounded the same to me. What's with this "tough heroine" thing going on? Geez...
Ditto here! I'm all romanced out for the time being, and like you, the last 3 books I picked up got put down again before the end of Chapter One.
ReplyDeleteHere are a few excellent reads that may jump-start your inner book-geek:
Middlesex by Jeffery Euginides
LAMB by Christopher Moore
Anything by Nelson DeMille - try Plum Island, it's a good mix of suspense and humor.
Hope that helps and good luck with your slump!
I'll second Lamb. I'm reading it now. Fair warning, you have to be able to laugh about religion to enjoy it, I think. I've been snickering. I read a section to my husband and he said 'Irreverant, but I guess that's funny.'
